Many of my riding clients have asked me what they can do to improve their flexibility and core strength. "Power Yoga For Everybody" is a DVD I can recommend as a supplement to your riding. I am not a certified yoga teacher by any means, but I can share a few important tips I have learned through yoga over the years.
~ Practice your movements following your breath. Be sure to check you are doing this often!
~ Be careful when doing yoga poses. A good rule is to do the movement until you feel resistance, and then pull back 40%. This allows your body time to gently adapt to the pose.
~ Remember yoga is a process of inner awareness. It is NOT about how far one can push themselves into the poses.
~ When using this DVD, you may want to skip or shorten the more difficult poses. I highly recommend focusing on the beginner level and choosing one of the routines that suits how you are feeling that day. I hope you enjoy the benefits yoga has to offer you!
